Somewhere within
Dr. Nicholas J. Besch Jr.
's Arvada Women's Healthcare obstetrics and gynecology office, 5730 Ward Road, Arvada, sits numerous boxes housing an almost incalculable amount of baby pictures, all of whom he's delivered personally in his 40 years of medical service.
"I know my own patients," said Besch. "Who they are, what their needs are. It just leads to better medicine and a better insight to a patient's condition."
A resident of Arvada since 1976, Dr. Besch is on-call most of the day and is on staff at both Lutheran Medical Center in Wheat Ridge and St. Anthony's Central Hospital in Denver, according to wife
Erna
.
"He's a rare breed," she said. "Not many people can say their on-call 24 hours in a day. It makes for a very unique practice. He's very, very dedicated to it. He even delivered his own daughter,
Christina
, while in the Air Force."
According to Dr. Besch, the most rewarding aspect about being an on-call OBGYN is the ability to catch up with the children, now adults, he once delivered, as well as bringing more children into the world.
"It's still fun to do this," he said. "You get to see the patients for years and years. Generally, bringing children into the world is such a happy time. "
Dr. Besch has delivered children from families ranging across the Denver metro area - once included sextuplets and, at a later time, he delivered the child of a married couple, both of whom he previously delivered.
"We pride ourselves in our small office environment," said Erna. "My husband has been doing this since before Roe V. Wade, and, you know, he's just a dying breed."
The Arvada Women's Healthcare is taking in new patients and the office accepts most insurance coverages.

Dr. Besch is an amazing OB! He delivered my first child in September, and he went above and beyond to ensure that me and my baby were comfortable, safe, and healthy throughout the labor and delivery. Anyone looking for the best possible OB care should go to Dr. Besch!
