I see in the newspaper last week that Arvada is planning on hiring someone to watch the sales tax income grow.
If the city, county, state and the federal governments, now all license any type of business, for tax purposes, can some one tell me why we are going to pay someone $90,000.00 per year to make sure they are collecting the funds.
What will the rest of costs involved be? Surely an office, truck and support staff.
Now if Arvada has a new layer of government , wont Lakewood, Westminister, Broomfield,Edgewater also need one?
Folks it's time we informed our local elected officials that tax money does not grow on trees, it comes from the hard working pockets of citizens, working in the private sector. All government jobs are a tax burden on private citizens income.
We have been concerned about socialism at the federal level for all my life and the real threat is from the dreamers at the local level.

The proposed position Mr. Bailey is questioning is NOT to enforce tax collections, but to attract a broader range of sales-tax paying retail to Arvada. I'm all for the private sector, but its totally appropriate that the City have marketing and sales people out there speaking to the corporate sector that makes location decisions. Not sure what that has to do with socialism, but it has everything to do with the real world. The more Arvada captures its own retail base, the lower everybody's taxes will be. P.S. The proposed budget figure cited it TOTAL, salary, benefits, office, supplies, phone, and travel. Also most of the other cities mentioned already have more than one position like this.
