Updates on Roadway Construction at Jeffco Facility

There has been major construction in front of the Jefferson County Administrative and Courts Facility over the last few months as the county prepares for construction of the RTD West Corridor light rail extension and train station. Following are the updates on the different parts of the overall project:

JOHNSON ROAD REOPENING -

  • Concrete curb and gutter has been placed along the center medians and roadway edges of Johnson Road between 6th Avenue and 10th Avenue.
  • Asphalt paving and striping is planned for Saturday through Monday, June 13-15.
  • Crews anticipate that by Tuesday, June 16, Johnson Road will be open to traffic.
  • Work will continue this summer along Johnson Road to complete the sidewalks, place concrete medians, install irrigation lines and landscape plantings.

JEFFERSON COUNTY PARKWAY DETOUR PAVING -

  • Crews plan to pave the temporary detour on Jefferson County Parkway in front of the Ballot Drop Off area over this weekend, June 13 - 15.
    • This will improve the drainage and eliminate the muddy conditions experienced in during the month of May. Drivers should expect to use this detour through July.
  • Construction crews will shut down Jefferson County Parkway east of Weimer Street to the Courtside Parking Structure entrance on Saturday and Sunday for paving operations. Employees working this weekend should access the Courthouse via W. 6th Avenue / Johnson Road at the roundabout. Parking will still be available on top and underneath both structures.

PHASE 2 CONSTRUCTION BEGINS -

Phase 2 of roadway construction, expected to start June 15, will focus on the new extension of Jefferson County Parkway behind the jail. Like Johnson Road, the soil subgrade will be blended with cement to improve strength.

  • Curb and gutter, center medians, sidewalks, and asphalt paving will be installed.
  • Work will continue to realign the existing portion of Jefferson County Parkway with the new segment and construct the intersection.

More information of this alignment and traffic changes will follow in the weeks to come.

Completion of the entire roadway project is planned for early September. Thank you for your patience during this construction!
