What about that Weather?
Contributed by: Amanda Vargas on 3/23/2007

As anyone who has lived in Colorado for longer than a week knows, the weather is a tricky subject here. The news shows have qualified individuals who will spout off terms like Chinook winds, cirrus clouds, golf ball sized hail and maybe you've thought, "What on earth are they talking about?" Would you like to learn more?

The Adams County Office of Emergency Management along with the Adams County Safety Committee is hosting two Weather Spotter classes put on by the National Weather Service (NWS). These classes will qualify individuals to become official weather spotters (you can call into the NWS and report that funnel cloud you see on your way home from work) or just make you feel more comfortable being out and about with your family in Colorado's finicky weather scenarios.

Attendees will not only learn to recognize tornadoes, but also understand how the storms form for a better grasp of how to react to extreme or unusual circumstances. Additionally, you may remember those beautiful snow totals from our holiday storms. Much of that information came from qualified weather spotters. While Doppler radar, satellite and other systems are the technology available for weather detection, humans on the ground still have a purpose in weather reporting. This is a great opportunity for those who get excited when the sunshine disappears!

This class is made for those who enjoy the ever changing weather of Colorado and would like to gain a better understanding of the hows and whys of weather. Please join us on April 17 th from 1:00 to 3:00 pm or May 8 th from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at 4201 E. 72 nd Avenue, Commerce City, CO 80022. Please call 720-322-1401 to reserve your seat.
