Officers go the distance for Special Olympics


ARVADA - Arvada police officers participated in the 'Torch Run' June 1, an event where law enforcement personnel pay tribute to athletes who will be competing in the Special Olympics Summer games in Colorado.

Arvada officers received a torch from Westminster police officers at 88th Avenue and Wadsworth Boulevard and ran south to hand off the torch toWheat Ridgeofficers at Interstate 70 and Wadsworth.

Many officers continued the Torch Run through Lakewood on to Colfax Avenue and then to the state Capitol.

The event culminated at Coors Field where police officers from law enforcement agencies throughout the state joined athletes with the Special Olympics for a special event.

Colorado law enforcement officers have raised more than $17,000 for the Special Olympics of Colorado this year alone.
