John Giardino Announces Candidacy for State Senate District 19
ARVADA, CO -------John Giardino, Democrat, businessman and schools advocate from Arvada, has announced his candidacy for State Senate District 19. In making his announcement, Giardino said, "The State of Colorado is on the verge of becoming a leader in education, health care, renewable energy, transportation and more. I'm ready and committed to bringing my experience and interest in these important areas to the State Senate."
Giardino has seen firsthand the shortcomings of the healthcare system in Colorado and dealt with the challenges that face both K-12 and our higher education systems. Giardino practiced dentistry in Leadville for 27 years. While there, he served as a Trustee and Board Chair for Colorado Mountain College, and is known as a staunch advocate for higher education at the local, state and national levels. He was the named principal in "Giardino v. State Board of Education", a class action lawsuit for K-12 school capital funding in Colorado. He has worked with legislators statewide on a variety of education issues and has been a consultant for a renewable energy company.
House District 29 State Representative Debbie Benefield, a mentor and supporter says, "I've come to know and respect John Giardino for his passion and genuine concern for the needs of this community. He has an innate ability to see the big picture from his neighbors' perspective. He uses his experience and respectful, persuasive leadership style to carry their voices toward decisions that best affect their everyday lives. In today's climate of collaboration we need more people like John who can work with all sides to keep Colorado moving forward."
"I've always felt a deep responsibility, a calling to represent my communities. My experience has provided me with the tools to navigate the legislative process and get the job done. The Senate will give me the opportunity to do that not only for my district but for the state of Colorado."
Giardino is a native of Colorado. He and his wife Erin live in Arvada. The Senate District 19 seat will be open in 2008 because current Senator Sue Windels is term limited.
