Notice of Construction: Ken Caryl Avenue

Notice of Construction: Ken Caryl Avenue

(Continental Divide to Kipling Parkway)

Beginning late April 2008 through September 2008

Beginning late in April 2008, the Jefferson County Road & Bridge Division will be conducting construction on Ken Caryl Avenue from approximately Continental Divide to Kipling Parkway.

Construction is necessary to improve traffic safety and repair portions of Ken Caryl Avenue that have been damaged due to the expansive soils in the area. Construction is expected to end in September 2008.

There will be a single lane closure of Ken Caryl Avenue in the eastbound direction from Continental Divide to Kipling Avenue beginning April 21. Various lane closures will be necessary during the construction, and traffic delays are expected. Beginning in early June, a three-week closure is expected on Ken Caryl Avenue from Simms Street to Kipling Parkway to complete a total reconstruction of the intersection at Continental Divide and Ken Caryl Avenue.

Significant delays are expected throughout the construction period and citizens are encouraged to plan alternative routes. There will be further updates as construction progresses.

Improvements to be made during this project include:

• Reducing the steep roadway grades west of the intersection of Continental Divide and Ken Caryl Avenue to increase sight distances.

• Installing a roadway perimeter trench drain system to mitigate expansive soils in the area.

• Roto-milling and paving portions of Ken Caryl Avenue.

• Removing and replacing damaged curb, gutter, and attached sidewalk.

• Installing updated handicap ramps at the intersection to improve pedestrian safety.

Background and project information is available on the County's Web site at www.jeffco.us/highways. Look for the "Construction Projects" link and then click on this project under the Roadway Projects heading.
