A trashy new year
Contributed by: Rob Delisa on 1/2/2007

Who let us down during the holiday storms?

The trash was last picked up in my Lakecrest neighborhood on Friday, December 15.

The two storms that struck Denver over the holidays were costly for everyone. Businesses and retailers lost valuable time and money. Christmas gifts and other important packages were not received as expected. As a result, everyone had to be a little more forgiving, understanding, patient and work a little bit harder to make up for the lost hours and business, while at the same time, respect the privilege of others to enjoy holiday time off with their families. Some package carriers worked through the holidays and some retailers even stayed open an extra hour on Christmas Eve.

So, due to the holidays and two unusual storms that pounded our entire city, I can understand how Allied Waste could have used a couple of extra days to service our neighborhood. What I can't accept is how they completely failed to service our account one time in over two weeks. At a time when most other businesses were working extra hours, losing money and making all kinds of other sacrifices, what did Allied Waste do?

Their monthly revenue will remain unchanged, despite the fact they failed to make good on two of their weekly commitments. It appears to me that they took advantage of the storm in order to enjoy an extended holiday.
