Today my friend confided in me. My friend was dealing with some issues and sought my advice. I voiced my concerns and opinions, and we discussed possible outcomes and resolutions to the predicaments my friend was facing. After the conversation I felt overwhelmed with honor from the fact that my friend wanted to hear my wisdom and insights onto the situations he faced. It is truly an amazing experience knowing that you have helped someone by reassuring them that everything will be okay.
In order for you to keep your sanity, it is imperative that you release your tension and stress through communication. You cannot go through life ignoring your problems and bottling up your emotions. At first, your issues may appear to be petty and minor, but if you keep blocking them out, they will intensify. With the addition of more woes and worries as the times progress, you will become preoccupied, and will harness the fears and pressures emitted from them. This ultimately gives your problems free reign over your mind. If you do not release them, just like a soda, vigorously shaken to the point of combustion, you will explode. You will lose both your mental and physical health, and all will not be well. I recall an episode of a television program from my childhood, titled
Malcolm in the Middle. In the episode, Malcolm decides not to voice his concerns or opinions to his family, friends and those around him. In the end of the episode, he experiences a peptic ulcer because he would not tell anyone around him how he was feeling.
So, how can you release your problems and worries? The answer is simple: you must confide in someone else to help release your tension and stress. However, use caution when confiding in someone. You must be able to trust the person with which you are discussing your problems, and you must find them knowledgeable and wise. Do not confide in someone who may make your problems the latest gossip around town. Pick someone who is extremely close to you, and will help you through thick and thin, and someone you believe will help solve your problem, rather than hinder your ability to find a resolution.
When you are stuck in a rut, do not hide, instead confide! It will make life less stressful and, most importantly, more enjoyable.
