Legacy top band at Pomona Fest
Contributed by: Janet Newman on 10/7/2007

Columbus Day Parade, Oktoberfest, Genesis concert, Rockies game ... October 6 was jam packed with events. Those who traveled to the North Area Athletic Complex for the 19th Annual Pomona Marching Festival made a wise choice. As promised, 3,000 marching band students put on quite a show. This despite the wind gusts that kicked up dirt devils, toppled props, and affected tossed flags, rifles and sabers.

After all 30 bands performed in prelims, the 12 top-scoring units moved on to finals. Although last year's winner, Rampart, was in that top 12, a prior commitment prevented them from competing in the evening's finals. Host Pomona High School performed in exhibition following prelims and finals.

Finals Results

1. Legacy (76.30) High Visual/High General Effect
2. Arapahoe (75.70) High Music
3. Air Academy (74.05)
4. Loveland (71.35)
5. Douglas County (70.45)
6. Rio Rancho, New Mexico (69.70)
7. Green Mountain (67.00)
8. Northglenn (63.70)
9. Fairview (63.50)
10. Monarch (62.95)
11 Chatfield (62.80)
12. El Dorado, New Mexico (59.15)

Colorado's state championships for 4A and 5A marching bands take place on October 20 at Hughes Stadium in Fort Collins. Many of these bands will be there at finals, playing for the top spot.
