The Colorado Comets 10U and the Colorado Comets 16UA have more in common than just their name. Both Arvada based competitive fastpitch softball teams took first place in the 4th Annual Halloween Bash tournament, played at Clement Park in Littleton and Schaefer Park in Lakewood on October 25th and 26th.
Both teams were undefeated, with the Lil' Comets (all players are 10 years old or younger) winning 6 games and the 16 and under Comets winning 7 games. The younger Comets came from behind in both of their last two games, which made head coaches Brian and Polly Eldredge a little nervous. But, Brian brought his team together in the last inning and told them, "This game isn't over yet!" The girls proved to their coach that it wasn't, as they overcame a 5 point deficit in the final inning. They went on to defeat the Fort Collins Stars in the championship game, with help from Hannah Peterson, who slugged a 2 run homer. The Lil' Comets players include: Katelyn Eldredge, Sydney Harsh, Lexie Kimminau, Taylor Langworthy, Ashley Madden, Hannah Peterson, Danella Porreco, Lily Sale, Madeline Smith, Sydney Svejcar and Cali Wolf. Scott and Kathy Kimminau help coach the 10 and under Comets.
In the 16 and under bracket, Kelsey Kimminau pitched a no-hitter in the semi-final game, defeating the Colorado Stars coached by Chris Siedem, with a score of 6-0. Kelsey then turned the mound over to fellow pitcher Kylie Pierce, who also pitched a no-hitter, shutting out the Colorado Diamonds, coached by Jon Skeels, in the championship game, with a score of 3-0. The Comets' 3 runs were all scored in the first inning. Alyssa Carter started off with an infield single. Amanda Arias-Young then reached on an error. Mary Towner ripped a 2 run triple, and Erica Haugum knocked out another single to score Mary. The older Comets are head coached by Scott Kimminau, with assistant coaches Mike Pickett, Chad Thompson, Alan Thompson and Kathy Kimminau.
