Broncomaniac Gone Wild!!!
Contributed by: Bobbi Johnson on 12/19/2006

The Broncos are the greatest! I can't wait for Sundays to watch them play! I am a 3rd grade teacher in Jeffco and my Bronco Fever has carried over to my classroom. I have a Broncos Shrine in my classroom! I connect everything I can to the Broncos. I have a Broncos Touchdown Book Club where students earn football stickers for every book they read. They earn compliments on a football field in which every compliment is worth 10 yards and when they make a touchdown, they earn a party.
Every Monday we do "Bronco Math" We track the wins and losses for the season. I copy the stats and we use them to add, subtract, multiply, divide, do fractions (quarters), place value and make predictions for the next game. I have also integrated geography and science. My studentshave to mark the cities and statesthe Broncos play in on a mapand I've integrated science, where theweather and variables play a part in the games.
At the beginning of the year we set goals (get it?) and I instill that we are like the Broncos---we're a team and we work together to achieve success! I connect so many of my lessons to the Broncos! Being a die hard Broncos fan has certainly enhanced my teaching methods! By the end of the year, even my girls love the Broncos and football in general. Their parents and family members are very impressed that my students can read the Broncos statistics. Being a Broncomaniac is so much fun and in the process I'm recruiting new Broncos fans!
