Rockies Heaven With Eleven
Contributed by: Craig Petroff on 8/19/2007

It all started in the Summer of 1964. I was 4 years old. My dad bought me my first baseball glove. Anxious to give it a try, me and my two older brothers, Mark and Brad, rode our bikes to Gardner Field and played work ups all day long. The only things we needed was our gloves, bats, baseballs, and our imaginations. We would play ball for 8 hours without missing a beat. I still remember the sound of the crack of the bat and the popping of that new glove. When we had exhausted all of our energy, we would ride our bikes over to the convenience store accross the street, and recap the day over an RC Cola and a Snickers Bar. Man, those were the days, not a care in the world.

I became a bat boy for my older brother Brad's team that Summer. My dad Andrew was the coach. It was a prefect start to what now has become my 42nd year around baseball. I played Little League, Pony League, Colt League, Connie Mack, College, and Semi-Pro baseball. I got married to Paula in 1985 and had to postone our Honeymoon because I had to picth the first game of a double header the next day. Although I never made it to The Show, I still love the game and have coached the past several years. Baseball has remained one of the cornerstones of my life. Why just last week I was out on the field coaching my 8 year old son Jordan and a few of his team mates. I remember when I was 8 years old and played my first year of organized baseball. It seems like it was yesterday!

Which brings me to my next point. I am now 46 and work for Triple Crown Sports in Ft. Collins. Of course I am in the baseball division. I run select travel baseball tournaments in the state of FL. I remain a student of the game, with a burning passion that just won't die. The guys I hang around share that same passion, although their paths were totally different. There's Dave, Roland, Sean, Thad, Mark, Keri, John, Kasey, Brandon, and Matt . We are the baseball division at Triple Crown. We have been around baseball for most of our lives. Several of us, still coach. Family, baseball, and the Colorado Rockies, mean more to us than anything. We understand and love the game.

What better way to utilize a suite at an upcoming Rockies game, then to get 12 baseball purists together to talk baseball. While watching the Rockies secure a much needed win during the pennant race, we will embrace the game that has given us back more than we could ever ask for. We would be true ambassadors for the Rockies and America's game. No great play, great pitch, hit and run, or base knock, would go un-noticed to this special group of guys.Play Ball!
