Nearly seen it all
Contributed by: Wendy Abshire on 5/11/2008

I'm reflecting on my love of baseball and the Colorado Rockies as I sit in my comfy chair smiling in my new Tulowitzki jersey. It was recently given to me by my husband and sons as my Mother's Day present. It's the only thing I suggested as a gift to improve my odds. It worked and I love it! More reflection: Some people say baseball is boring, but I don't get it. Every nuance is interesting to me. Where's the next pitch gonna be? Which way are the fielders shaded? I could go on and on.

Growing up as a Colorado native born in Denver I really enjoyed the Bears and the Zephyrs, but when it game to the big leagues I had to settle for watching the Cubs and Braves on television. "We" never bonded though. I was waiting until I had my very own team to give my heart away. I recall the elation the first time we saw Rockies gear in the store for sale shortly after they announced what our team name would be. How warmly I recall the treks to 20th and Blake as Coors Field was under construction knowing that it would be our baseball home!

I was there on Opening Day 1993 and often recall the utter elation I felt. It was then I finally got to know MY team! As Tinkerbell from Peter Pan would say when giving advice on how to fly, that day is one of my special "happy thoughts". I've sat through snow, wind, flooding rain, intense lightening, heat over 100 degrees, and countless beautiful sunsets all to watch our guys in purple and black play the game. I've seen a no hitter, an unassisted triple play, long balls off the score board, fabulous defensive gems, countless scoops out of the dirt by Todd, the incredible Rocktober run of 21 of 22, and MY team in the World Series! I've tested the limits of KOA's reach listening to games on the radio in all directions. I've lost count of how many anniversaries, birthdays, and other special occasions I've celebrated in the stands. I've watched games from nearly every part of Coors Field including the club level once for a pre-season game, but not yet from a suite. Does it make the game any sweeter? I doubt it, but I'd love to try it just once to find out for sure.
