A true voice emerges
Contributed by: Geoff Suk on 2/19/2008

Jack Martin's review of the Arvada Grill in the Feb. 14 edition is right on in my opinion. I am dumbfounded every time I drive by the Arvada Grill and they are busy because my wife and I had a terrible experience there a few months ago.

When we walked into the restaurant, we were told that it would be a 10-minute wait, even though there were open tables and waitstaff standing around. Everything was fine after that until our food arrived. My wife ordered a rotisserie chicken sandwich and parts of her chicken were not cooked thouroughly. My burger was one of the worst burgers that I've ever had and the "homemade" fries were soggy and cold. We brought the undercooked chicken to the attention of our waitress, and she brought the chef out to speak with us.

His style of customer service was to talk down to us and tell us that we did not know what we were talking about, and that because he was a chef we should just trust him. On a side note, I've been in the food service industry for 10 years and have worked in some of the top restaurants in Colorado, but I kept my mouth shut because I didn't want to be "That Guy."

After Chef Alex Gurevich was through with his insulting way of appeasing the guests, he asked if we would like a complimentary dessert. We replied that we did not want a complimentary dessert and that we would only like the check. After 5 minutes of sitting at our table staring at the walls, the chef emerged with their "signature" dessert, a disassembled white chocolate banana cream pie.

First of all, we didn't want the dessert, we just wanted to leave, and second of all, if your trying to make a guest happy after a bad experience, don't bring them an unwanted dessert that uses instant pudding as the main ingredient.
The final insult came when instead of discounting my wife's sandwich from the check, they gave us a gift certificate for the next time that we came in. We left the certificate on the table and walked out the door, never to return. Not only will we never go back, but I will never recommend the restaurant to anyone. I usually don't use the word never and I am willing to give most anyone a second chance, but after an experience like that I will never go back to the Arvada Grill.

Coincidentally, I talked with the chef of one of Denver's finest steakhouses and he had a very similar experience to ours, and he too will never frequent the Arvada Grill again. I'm sure that they have served some good meals and that they have had some happy customers, but any place that would send out undercooked chicken and then not admit to making a mistake when called out values their customers well-being and safety below their egos and reputations. Just a word of caution on my part.

Doesn't sound like a place I would want to eat.
