Theft of decorative geese ruffles my feathers
Contributed by: Fred Holden on 6/18/2007

Finally it hits the papers. The egregious theft of the delightfully garish geese is exposed. What kind of person would steal two stylishly dressed geese, male and female, elegantly coiffed and clothed for Easter? All those Oak Street drivers and walkers are being denied their "Welcome New Colorado Day" view in passing the geese and catching their latest scenario.

For me, it's part of the treat of my early-morning walks of twenty-plus years. I anticipate the new theme, garb, tenor and style when and for whatever occasion it happens.

There was already trouble in Arvada city/Oak Street, when, after a long, long time of three geese, the smallest, cutest gosling child was gone. What's been happening to the family in America, I guess, was happening to our white-feathered honkers. That was sad enough, but now to have them all gone is virtually too much to bear. There ought to be a law. There is a law: Thou shalt not steal.

Put out an all-points bulletin, a house-to-house search. Appoint a special prosecutor. Call a grand jury. Assemble a posse. Find and bring to justice the stealer-thief-person who would stoop so low as to kidnap/steal two innocent, minding-their-own-business, dress-in-contemporary-style geese. If you have any information about the geese-thief-bagger, call the Arvada Police. Or send a small donation to me for the "Bring back the geese fund."

Sounding like President Reagan telling Chairman Gorbachev to "tear down this (Berlin) wall," for me and my fellow Oak Street geese-gawkers, "Stealer-thief-person: Bring back those geese."
