The incredible shrinking paper
Contributed by: Merrimon Crawford on 2/15/2007

The worst thing about the new Rocky Mountain News / Denver Post formats is the suddenly incredible shrinking YourHub. I can distastefully stomach the other shrinking news sections with the ever increasing white margins, but not a smaller YourHub. This is a place to find out about our local neighborhoods and to look at local ads. This is the real pulse of the area. The editors have done an excellent job. As a reader who has just moved into a new neighborhood, this is my favorite part of the entire paper. All of our neighbors are reading it with interest.

I do not like the way you have shrunken this section to almost nothing, especially since this is the one thing we can't find on Yahoo! and all the other news websites. Also, at least the ads are local so we don't have to wade through a bunch of advertising of no geographical interest. Please stop shrinking this section and expand it as more writers and businesses turn to it!

And to all the businesses that have bought our name from some list of new home buyers to flood our mailbox with junk mail ... you ought to be advertising in YourHub and actually supporting the neighborhood instead of infringing on our privacy and our mailbox! Where do you think newly moved people are really going to go to check out the neighborhood? I can tell you that the spam snail mail is NOT where I am going. YourHub is what is hot.

I would like to see the section increased with more ads from local restaurants and menus since I am still exploring the new neighborhood. Seth is doing an excellent job and I thoroughly enjoy reading stories from my neighbors. On Thursdays, I actually read the paper (YourHub anyhow) before I go to work instead of after I get home in the evening.

Seth you are doing a an excellent job despite the restraints and the headlines and highlights you do are superb! People are obviously reading the web version too! Our King Sooper's suddenly has more Big K Diet Cherry Cola space on the shelves! Gladys, your stories are fantastic! I am sure all sorts of people look forward to seeing your new posts. There has been a 1/3 reduction in pages since December----they should be increasing the page count and local ads instead and give Seth more space to perform his wonderful editing feats.

It definitely doesn't make my job easier when it comes time to decide which postings go in the print edition. I am glad that people notice and care, though!

I agree with you. I love Your Hub. I can't believe how many of my aquaintances are telling me that they read my stories when they are in the paper! It is exciting for me.
