Arvada Grill review didn't match my own experience
Contributed by: Jack Martin on 2/12/2008

I just read the article about the Arvada Grill by Andrea Spikes, and they must have known she was writing about them because we had the opposite experience at Arvada Grill.

My wife and I took a friend to Arvada Grill about a month ago for dinner. The atmosphere was fine like Andrea says but that's where the similarity ends. I ordered rotisserie chicken figuring I couldn't go wrong with the house specialty, Was I ever wrong!

The chicken was barely warm, the mashed potatoes and gravy were cold as were the veggies that were served with the chicken. They must have been prepared that morning and left sitting out all day. I don't remember what the others ordered but they both said the entree was only lukewarm and the potatoes and veggies were cold as well. The waiter was pleasant but didn't do much more than take our order and deliver the food and the bill. He never checked to see how our food was. We won't go back to Arvada Grill again.

I just recently spoke to a friend who tried Arvada Grill for lunch and he reported the same type of complaint. He said he ordered a hamburger and fries. He said the burger was average but the fries were cold like they had been sitting out for several hours. He also reported poor service because there was only one wait person on duty. He is not inclined to go back again, either

You might let Andrea Spikes know not everyone shares her opinion of Arvada Grill.

I was very surprised to read these negative comments about The Arvada Grill. I am a local and we have been needing to "strengthen" the community of Olde Town Arvada, make a name for the town, give people who live in Arvada what they want & need. So when the first "grown up" restaurant came to town, I was ecstatic! The Arvada Grill is the first restaurant to bring size along with substance in Olde Town. I dine here frequently, and my experience has been sincere, accommodating hospitality in conjunction with great food at competitive prices. This restaurant had barely been open, and yet people are so eager to comment on the trials and tribulations of a new restaurant in progress, a state of "tweaking" ambiance, recepies, and of course "staff". We all know, a restaurant deserves time to create a personality. My friends, neighbors and family will continue to patron The Arvada Grill. We just hope that more of the sensible crowd will support this restaurant in Olde Town Arvada.

Jack you hit the nail on the head. I've posted a more in depth account of my experience at the Arvada Grill. Here's the link if anyone would like to read it: http://denver.yourhub.com/Arvada/Stories/Sound-Off/General-Sound-Off/Story~430826.aspx

Hello, As the chef and managing partner of Arvada Grill, I would like to acknowledge your feedback. I would like to take the opportunity to apologize to all who have dined with us if you did not have a wonderful experience. However, you do need to know that with a new and very large restaurant, food, service and various issues take time to fix and we greatly appreciate constructive criticism. We do implement changes rather quickly to make sure that we address all concerns. However, with just a few exceptions, our guests have had positive experiences. We are excited to be a part of Olde Town Arvada and sincerely hope that we are given an opportunity to provide you with a positive dining experience. We look forward to your visit. Thank you, The Arvada Grill

I was told by the chef when I complained about being served undercooked salmon that I had never had salmon prepared properly in the past. I have traveled all over the world and have dined in 5 star restaurants and never once have I been served salmon undercooked. I felt as though I had just been reprimanded and that I did not know what fine dining was. I will not be back and truly am disappointed that I will not have Arvada Grill as an option for dining in the future. Thanks Jack for bringing this out and letting me know that others have shared my experience.

I am very disappointed in the Arvada Grill's service and management. I attempted to eat Brunch there in January after they had passed out numerous coupons for a buy one get one free brunch. I was told they were no longer serving brunch. I was disappointed that there was no sign indicating brunch was no longer served and that managment did not attempt to keep a customer by offering an alternative coupon to substitute for what they had given out to the public. The time previous to this experience our party of 6 had dinner in the restaurant and felt as though we were an inconvience to our server. I will not be going back.

I did let management at the Arvada Grill know I was not satisfied. My husband and I dined there several times and had satisfactory meals. Went with a friend for lunch and ordered the tuna sashimi. The tuna had a strong odor, took a small bite, it tasted terrible. Told the waitress the fish was spoiled. The rest of the meal arrived and was fine. On the bill was a charge for the tuna. The chef said they had to charge us because the tuna was fresh and we were wrong. I was not going to pay for spoiled fish. The chef then said we ate most of it. Not true. 30 minutes later the manager came over defiantly and said there was nothing wrong with the fish and that I probably did not know much about tuna. He finally relented and took the tuna off the bill. I had hoped that my experience was an isolated one, but the Arvada Grill has some work to do. I write this not because I got some bad tuna, but because I was treated as if I was dumb and/or trying to get away with not paying $9.95.

I do a lot of reviews, and I am very careful because I know that there can be a problem with consistency. Whenever I rate a place, I rate it on my personal experience and I always check the Health Inspection Reports. Judging from your experience and the people below, it seems that someone needs to talk to both the owner and the manager. They pay a lot to stay in that location and probably don't want to lose it due to bad publicity. They need to know about these problems so they can fix them.

We also had a disappointing experience there. When placing our drink orders, we were told they had neither decaf nor Root Beer. Our server continued "And while we're at it....." then gave us a list of several items on the menu that they were also out of. I ordered a Chicken - Biscuit Pot Pie, that when arrived had no biscuits in sight. It was covered instead with a loose glop of lukewarm mashed potatoes and gravy. My daughter ordered the Fish and Chips, which was "just ok, but a little on the greasy side", the accompanying coleslaw was brown as if it had been in the fridge for too many days. My husband did enjoy his Shrimp/Rice dish. Our server did not question the amount of food we left. She simply left us a comment card, which we did fill out. We were disheartened that no one bothered to contact us about this poor experience. We had thought to give them another try later on, but I'm not so sure that will happen now.

I had the exact same experience at Arvada Grill. While our childrens' meals were superb, my friend and I ordered the salads with rotisserie chicken and the chicken was fatty, brown and inedible.

Jack, our experience was similar to your's. We ordered two appetizers and there were very poorly done and the drinks were good, but expensive. We're going to give them several months to figure it out and then give em one more chance.
