Conservative refutes "Orwellian language" column
Contributed by: Fred Holden on 7/1/2006

Congratulations to O. Frank Turner, Master Orwellian dictionary author, for being true to his code. He says, "Orwellian language is language that means the opposite of what it says," then reveals to the masses how it is now "the language of the conservatives."

The bundle of truth he cites is a pack of lies in his six examples to YourHub.com readers, telling what conservatives believe, in simplistic word equations such as "Clear Skies = Get rid of emission standards," with distorted explanations and simplistic (and wrong) interpretations.

The highlighted pull-quote said, "Conservatives would rather see a woman get cervical cancer and die than to have sex outside of marriage." Who does Turner know, especially a conservative, that believes that?

His "Net Neutrality = Give control of the Internet to big business" is dead wrong. Conservatives all over the net are resisting this tooth-and-nail, fighting the bigs-Google, Microsoft, Wall Street Journal, etc.

How does one person so blatantly liberal presume to interpret and tell what his direct opposites think or believe? Can he instead, tell what he or his fellow democratic socialists believe? (Google "Democratic Socialism" to learn more of what Turner and those of his ilk believe and seek to do, to foil or destroy what remains of America's not-so-free enterprise system.)

For this conservative, I believe in the power of education, and knowledge of America's history, heritage, founders and freedom documents-the Declaration of Independence, U. S. and Colorado Constitutions and their incredibly important Bills of Rights. Read them, know them, defend and support them. ( Find them at http://198.187.128.12/colorado/lpext.dll?f=templates&fn=fs-main.htm&2.0) Colorado's Bill of Rights are the 30 sections in Article II.) That's who we are and where we came from, and why America is better than the rest.

As a conservative I believe the founders designed the Constitution for limited government and self-governing people-those who take care of their own and are responsible in the way they conduct their lives.

I believe in lower taxes-that means "property rights," where what I work for, create, earn and own, including my self, is mine, and to take it away from me is theft, even if the taker is government-in-excess.

I believe in individual freedom and personal responsibility.

I believe in our "unalienable rights" to "Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" and that "all men are created equal."

I support self-governing people, free enterprise, free markets, a strong national defense, private property, rule of law and secure borders.

I declare a faithful, "firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence."

I believe in the Constitution's preamble, that we are to "secure the Blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity." That means don't just live for me and today, but for those to come and for their tomorrow.

Finally, I believe that as a freedom-based society and relatively free people, we should, like the founders at the end of the declaration, "mutually pledge to each other, our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred Honor" to protect these rights, and regain and preserve these freedoms.

Bravo. Great to see someone saying what the beleive instead of what the are against. Too many people read the pursuit of happiness line as the right to happiness. Happiness is not guaranteed only the fact that the pursuit of it will not be interferred with.
