5A/5B Offering a Fiscal Mess
Contributed by: Russell Weisfield on 10/23/2006

North Jeffco ballot measures 5A and 5b are not sound fiscal policy. What is most disturbing is that there is a provision within these measures to raise "without limitation of rate or amount". This is essentially giving the District a limitless windfall. It does not encourage fiscal restraint.

The fact that taxpayer money is being spent on recreation is also unsound government. With a host of entertaining activities now available to the public, no one set of activities should be given subsidies.

It is time for the district directors to adhere to common economic pricinples and find other ways to raise needed funds rather than simply rely on the taxpayer trough. Most importantly, it is time to encourage fiscal prudence and not limitless funds.
