How Not to Reduce Dependence on Foreign Oil
Contributed by: Steve Johnson on 8/7/2008

Headlines on cbs4denver.com read Sen. Salazar Urges End to Stalemate on Energy!

And then he puts together a solution that does absolutely nothing to lessen our dependence of Middle East Oil.

Two quotes from cbs4denver.com article.

"Colorado Sen. Ken Salazar is calling on President Bush to release 70 million barrels of oil from the emergency reserve to lower gas prices in the short term, and is pushing a crackdown on oil speculation as part of a long-term solution."

Again, absolutely no mention of increasing domestic supplies of Oil or Natural Gas. Apparently it is okay to send another $8.4 Billion to Mid East Countries to replenish the strategic oil reserve once it is drawn down.

Neither drawing down the Strategic Oil Reserve or cracking down on oil speculation will produce one more barrel of oil or one more cubic foot of natural gas to lessen our dependence on foreign oil.

Then in the same article, Marilyn Musgrave said she was very skeptical about drawing down our Strategic Petroleum Reserve. "Musgrave called for a broad range of strategies including a ramp-up in nuclear, expanded renewables and more drilling for oil"

Now these are action items that WILL help reduce our dependence on Foreign Oil.

It is time to write Senator Ken Salazar and direct him to come up with a plan that reduces our dependence on Foreign Oil before we have sent every last dime we have to the the Middle East.
