5K/1 mile run/walk kicks off Father's Day

Runners, walkers, dads, kids and families...join us for the 2008 Father's Day 5K Run and 1 mile family run/walk, at 8 am and 8:15 am respectively, on Sunday, June 15.

These two festive, family-friendly events begin at the Apex Center, 13150 W. 72nd Avenue. To celebrate Father's Day, there are special options for adult/child teams in both the 5K run and the 1 mile fun run/walk.

Afterward, stick around for the 4th annual North Jeffco foundation car show, music and a pancake breakfast fundraiser by Arvada-Jefferson Kiwanis for the Arvada-Wheat Ridge Service Ambassadors for Youth!

This is a great event for a great cause...proceeds from the 5K and 1 mile events go to the North Jeffco Foundation, a non-profit agency dedicated to improving community recreation. The Father's Day Run is sponsored by Seminole Energy Services, Hoffbrau Colorado, ProTech, Johnson Controls and Namaste Solar Electric.

The flat, scenic course heads east from Apex to 72nd and Ward, then south to the Ralston Creek Trail intersection, then west on the trail back to Apex. One-milers stop there and 5K participants continue west on the Ralston Creek Trail to the turnaround. No rollerblading, roller skates, strollers, bicycles or skateboards.

Register by mail, postmarked by June 9, or in person by noon on Thursday, June 12 at any Apex Park and Recreation District facility with cash or check payable to North Jeffco Foundation. Forms are available at all Apex PRD facilities or on our website, www.apexprd.org. You can also register on event day beginning at 6:30 am at the Apex Center.
