Watch out: Baby on Board!
Colorado mamas (and a few papas) are hitting the trails with babies in tow. They are part of a popular hiking club, Colorado Mountain Mamas, which was founded by Arvada resident Joy Opp.
"I grew up in Colorado and was eager to introduce my daughter, Amanda, to hiking from an early age," said Opp. Now 2 ½, Amanda has graduated from Baby to Toddler hikes.
Colorado Mountain Mamas provides guided hiking opportunities for moms and their children ages newborn to three years old. All fitness levels are welcome and a maximum of 15 people are permitted on each hike. Membership is $40 per mom; babies "ride" free.
Susan Stanley started hiking with her daughter Addeson when she was only six weeks old. "I thought I was going to pass out on my first hike," she says. "But I persevered and got back into shape!" Stanley is now one of several hike leaders.
Stanley says that in addition to the great scenery and workout, she loves her interactions with other moms. "I've met some of my best friends through this hiking group!"
