On Sept. 5, North Jeffco Swim Team jumped back in the water after a break from a fast summer of swimming. The team of 150 swimmers took second place at the state championships in July and then went on to regional and national meets. By the finish of the season the team had two swimmers with three Olympic trial qualifying times among them.
Just about everyone visits the pool at some point in the summer. The swimmers at NJST are in the water year round, and love it. There are swimmers age 5 to 18 swimming at Meyers all coming together as North Jeffco Swim Team. There is not one member of the team more important than another and all of the swimmers are being lead by a coaching staff of four former swimmers and years of coaching experience.
Every fall the team grows in numbers with summer club swimmers looking to gain the benefits of swimming year round. This year was the same with 20 new swimmers in the water looking to be the best they can be.
They will learn how to look good in the water and then how to move fast through the water. More parents and children are seeing the great effects that come from being a swimmer. These athletes are in better shape than any other athlete. Not only does swimming provide for great aerobic exercise which creates a better football player, soccer player, but also band members who blow into an instrument do so better. Swimming is the ultimate cross training sport.
The majority of the RalstonValley girls swim team who took first place at 4A State this year also swim with North Jeffco Swim Team.
There are also swimmers at Pomona, Arvada West, Fairview, Wheatridge, Legacy, D'evelyn, Arvada, Mullen, Monarch, Broomfield and the list goes on. Most of these swimmers started swimming with NJST as age group swimmers (ages 5-12) and have continued with the sport into high school. They are the leaders among their high school teams not only in the pool but also in the classroom. Most of NJST's swimmers are also honor roll students, something just as important to the coaches as the swimming.
