It was close, but once the points were tallied, Pomona's boys team came away with the number one spot. After two days of competition they beat neighboring Ralston Valley by less than five points. On May 9 the Panthers got strong performances from their field athletes.
Jon Gamble and
Jeff Brown were 1st and 2nd in high jump and 3rd and 7th in triple jump.
Ryan Duman and
Cory Mager placed 2nd and 8th in shot put. On the track
Derik Linch (1st 300m hurdles) and
Adam Sinda (2nd 1600) posted high finishes. Pomona's girls took 4th place in the 5A competition.
Emily Hunsucker and
Kaitlin Krattenmaker duplicated their shot put results and took 1st and 2nd in discus.
Monique Mosley added a 3rd place finish in long jump to the first she earned in Wednesday's triple jump, and the girls 4x200 relay team of
D. Najera, M. Stuart, M. Hemlock and
L. Emery was 3rd in their event.
Dakota Ridge distance runners
Evan Appel and
Natosha Rogers won the 800, 1600 and 3200 races, breaking three league records in the process. For the girls of Dakota Ridge the day ended with enough points to claim the 5A league championship. In 4A competition Wheat Ridge took both titles. The trio of
Cowhick,
Fauble and
Schwaderer racked up points in the distance events for the Farmers.
