"My umbrella's in my car" was a refrain heard along the side lines during the last race of the Centaurus Cross Country meet Saturday at Waneka Lake in Lafayette. But as cross country fans know, discomfort for the spectators means a great day for running. And a great day it was for the Pomona Cross Country team. In the rain, the Pomona JV Boys, led by a first place finish from sophomore Tom Williams (17:44), won the race with only 36 points. Michael Rainey, Dylan Hayes, Chris Kurtchner , and Kade Shafer contributed to the very low score coming in 3rd, 4th, 15th, and 18th respectively.
The JV boys may have been inspired by their varsity team mates who made a commanding statement earlier in the morning. Senior Adam Sinda (15:55) took first place in the varsity boys race, and along with his teammates Ian Harkreader (7 th), Logan Shefelbine (12th), Desmin Ramirez (13th), Avi Kohen (23th), and Thomas Vavrik took the team title with 56 points.
Combined with a win at Horizon and a 4 th place finish at the pre-state meet in Fort Collins, the Pomona boy's team is hoping for a strong season.
Ashlee Gallegos led the Panther girls with her best mark of the season. This coming week, the Panthers will compete in the Liberty Bell Invitational held at Heritage High School. Liberty Bell is a large meet that usually attracts 80-90 schools from multiple states.
Good luck Panthers!
