Pomona track triple-header
Contributed by: larry harkreader on 4/14/2008

On Saturday, April 12, Pomona divided its coaches and athletes to compete in three track meets across the front range. Several athletes traveled to Mullen High School for the Runners Roost Invite. Many of the freshmen gathered their gear and headed north to Brighton for a freshman meet. The remainder of the athletes headed to Jeffco Stadium for the Dakota Invitational.

At Mullen, Cole Carveth and Hayden Hunsucker continued their fantastic year with second- and fourth-place finishes in the discus. Cole also won the shot put event. Emily Hunsucker placed second in the discus and sixth in the shot put.Dustin Ebner finished fifth in the 400-meter.

The Dakota Invitational hosted a majority of Pomona's tracksters. After a week of less than desirable weather for training, Saturday proved to be little better for results. The wind and cold hampered athletes and chilled spectators. The 4x800 team of Matt Harkreader, Ian Harkreader, Cory Sanchez and Nate Tauer placed third. Steve Lynn placed first and third in the varsity shot put and discus. Ian Harkreader PR'ed (personal record) in the 3,200-meter and finished first.

Pomona's freshman distance team did great at Brighton. The 4x800 team of Avi Kohen, Nathan Want, Von Olan and Jesus Sanchez came in first in a highly spirited field. Von won the individual 1,600. In the 3,200-meter, Nathan placed first and Avi came in second.
