The Pomona track squad has been busy; four meets just last week. It is time to meet some of the athletes. With high schools being a traditional focal point for communities and families, Pomona's track team brings community into the family. Pomona's nine pairs of sibling track athletes make a community in itself.
Why do so many brothers and sisters compete in the same sport? Pomona can give nine different answers. The coaches know that caring for teammates helps build the team. It also gives them at least two chances to get messages home to mom and dad. Are there difficulties with family members on the same team? Ask coach
Matt Wright or his sister, senior hurdler
Gretchen Wright.
Dustin and
Drew Ebner,
Cliff and
Emillio Henry, and
Jessica and
Danny Williams make sprinting a family sport. Proving siblings can go the distance are
Matt and
Ian Harkreader. Pomona's jumpers sport their own sibling pair,
Tyler and
Jeff Brown.
Pomona's siblings don't just run and jump. Two of the most successful sibling duos are
Cole and
Lanaia Carveth and
Hayden and
Emily Hunsucker. Both sets of brothers and sisters make their mark on the track team by throwing the discus and shot put.
Sean and
Martial Frindethie work both sides of a track meet by running and throwing.
These young men and women truly make Pomona home.
