The 2008 U.S. Collegiate Championships and the Colorado Championships are both coming soon to the Apex Center Ice Arena. National and Olympic-level figure skaters from all over the country will converge at Apex beginning Tuesday, August 5 for two days of practice sessions, followed by the competition from August 7 through August 9.
"We're thrilled to host these two prestigious events," said Apex Ice Arena Manager Bob Jones. "Figure skating fans, along with skaters, families and friends, are all looking forward to an exciting week."
Apex has hosted the Colorado Championships for the past seven years. This event typically draws top skaters from all over the region, and is always well represented by athletes from Colorado and the Denver metro area.
This year is the first time for the center to host the U.S. Collegiate Championships, which is unique in being the longest-running of all collegiate programs. It's also the only individual competition exclusively for full-time college students. Competitors in the sr. ladies division include Emily Hughes, who placed 7th in the 2006 Winter Olympics; Alissa Czisny; and Rachel Flatt.
Winners of the U.S. Collegiate Championships will receive free trips to upcoming international competitions, so the competition is bound to be fierce!
Both events are free to spectators-don't miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see hundreds of talented skaters from across the nation. For details on the competition schedule, call 303-403-2598.
