It's hard to believe that you would be cheering for a Crash Test Dummy, but this past week, several local families were very proud of their dummies.
The Colorado Crash Test Dummies is an Inline hockey team that took the Bronze medal in a National tournament this past week. "Go Dummies!" could be heard throughout the arena in San Jose, California last week, as the Colorado Crash Test Dummies 10U & 12U teams entered a national tournament that hosted 435 teams across North America and Canada. The NARCh (North American Roller Hockey Championships) tournament was held in San Jose, California and the Colorado Crash Test Dummies teams finished strong. Out of 18 teams in the 12's division, the Crash Dummies finished with a bronze medal win over the St. Louis Cobras. Our 10's made it to the bronze medal round against the Detroit Stars and came up just short taking the bronze, losing their medal game and taking 4th out of 15 teams.
The team did win first in the best jersey's category, as they were the talk of the tournament.
"I love the tire treads across their shoulders, and 'test in progress' written across their backs" said one Crash Test Dummy fan.
"We enjoy yelling 'go dummies' in a fun and friendly manner, and everyone else seems to love it too!" said team parent, Ben Martinez, "I think there are times people yell it and they mean the referee," he said jokingly.
The Colorado Crash Test Dummies are made up from a group of inline hockey players from around the Denver Metro area and are coached by Jeff Hanson and Wayne Hemzacek. Players on the team were "thrown together as a test" hence the name the Crash Test Dummies, which fits perfectly with hockey.
The Bronze medal 12U National champs are: Tyler Hanson, Noah Hemzacek, Scott Appleby, Ryan Martinez, Katie Dalton, Justin Wherry, Matt Wilkens, Kory Tisdell and goalie Jacob Rivera. The 10U "Lil'" Colorado Crash Test Dummies include: Jarrod Rivera, Brandon Martinez, Sam Appleby, Jake Wilkens, Jared Resseguie, Jacob Gombos, Dillon Stapleton and goalie Brandon Seifert, coaches, Jeff Hanson and Wayne Hemzacek.
