The Bluebird District of Denver isn't so different from a small town. And I can say I've lived in both. I was born and educated in Yuma, a town of roughly 3,500 on the Eastern Plains of Colorado, before heading north to Chadron, Neb., for my higher ed. I came to Denver on the coattails of my girlfriend (a fellow Yuman, but don't call us high school sweethearts) and stumbled into the best first job a journalist could hope for with YourHub.com. Sarah and I can usually be found at second-run movie theaters, staging impromptu photo shoots around town, spending large portions of our paychecks at Twist & Shout or dissecting the sociological importance of America's Next Top Model. I am a proud Colorado transplant from the East Coast who has received a B.A. in history from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a B.A. in journalism from Metropolitan State College of Denver. I have worked in a variety of industries as a teacher, property manager and as a mortgage broker. When I am not pursuing my journalistic goals I enjoy skiing, travel, music, photography, cooking and the never-ending maintenance of my 90-year-old bungalow in northwest Denver. I am fortunate to live with my oldest friend and wife, Catherine, a community health nurse practitioner, and my dog Zoë. |

I have lived in Colorado for most of my life and currently live in the Ball Park neighborhood. I love that here in Denver we can experience the buzz of city livin’ while being just a short drive from the mountains. I have a degree in journalism from CU-Boulder and have been with YourHub.com since I graduated in May 2006. When I’m not pounding the pavement as a community journalist, I enjoy skiing, playing the piano and curling up with a cup of tea and a good book. I also am studying to be a yoga instructor. I grew up in Dallas and Los Angeles and went to college at UCLA and UC-Berkeley as an English major. After college and a trip to Europe, I lived in the Ozarks of northwest Arkansas, where I learned how to milk a cow, make bread on a wood cookstove and salvage old houses for building materials. When I returned to civilization, my husband and I started our family. I have worked for weekly newspapers, monthly magazines and a Colorado book publisher before coming to work at YourHub.com. I was born in Boulder, but spent most of my life in Arvada. As a child, I knew that I wanted to be a writer--it was something that came naturally to me. Writing has always been my outlet for stress, and as an outgoing person, reporting seemed like the perfect career for me. I graduated from the University of Colorado in May 2008, and now I am excited to say that I have joined the staff at YourHub.com as a community journalist. I live in central Denver with my wife and four young children who are threatening a coup but haven't yet decided who should lead it -- once they've decided whether to have fruit chews or cheese sticks for their snack they'll get around to toppling the patriarchy. Many years ago I graduated from Texas A&M University, and my peripatetic career has included stints as ski bum, bookstore manager, mortgage banker and stay-at-home dad. My hobbies include Ultimate frisbee and not standing in one place long enough that the children can tackle me. |

I'm a sea-level gal hailing from a lifetime on the Great Lakes and who had a hankering for some serious elevation. In early '08, I packed up my cat and a U-Haul trailer, drove west and declared this great square state my new home. My quaint apartment is in Capitol Hill and boasts a toilet that grinds loudly with every flush. I bleed green and white as a graduate from Michigan State University with B.A.'s in journalism and German. I love photography, traveling, Greek mythology, soccer, skiing and red wine. I hate Styrofoam, am allergic to deer hair and was once bitten by a squirrel. So that about sums it up: your basic Kristin-in-a-nutshell. |

It is inarguable: I do so much pride myself on my not-always-conventional (pretty goofy) characteristics. For example, I may be one of the few left who prefer to write with a quill. Weird? Maybe. Creative? I think so. Born in Denver, I feel fortunate to have been raised in both the Mile High City and Los Angeles, CA. After finally planting my feet firmly in Edgewater, I went on to receive a B.A. in political science from the University of Colorado Denver in 2007. Soon after, I landed my first writing gig as a legislative journalist covering the 2008 Colorado General Assembly. I very much enjoy jogging (especially around Sloan's Lake), writing music with my band and can often be found at a downtown Starbucks with my face in either a novel or a how-to book--that's if it's not in a cinnamon dolce latte. |

I am a Colorado native, born raised in the same house in Littleton (boring I know, but a great place to grow up). I graduated from CU-Boulder in 2006 with a B.A. in journalism. This is my second "real" journalism job out of college. I was previously a reporter at a community newspaper writing features, education and business stories. I found there are stories to tell every day, even as close as your own backyard. Aside from my working life, I'm enjoying my post-college life in downtown. In my free time I enjoy doing outdoor activities, including running (I'm one of those freaks who runs for fun), snowboarding (I'm still not very good considering how long I've been doing it) and biking (I just bought a cruiser and will ride it, despite what everyone keeps telling me). |

Although I was born in Manila, Philippines, Colorado has been my home for two decades. I left for a short while to attend college in Missouri and earn my associates degree, but came back to attend the University of Denver and get my bachelor’s in journalism and English. I was born and raised in Denver – well, technically Aurora – and although I have lived in Colorado my entire life, I have never been skiing. My interest in creative writing led me to pursue an education in journalism; I graduated from the Metropolitan State College of Denver in 2004 with my bachelor’s degree and a minor in English. I live in south Denver with my wife, Melinda. Our son, Prahlad, was born in March 2007 and I am learning more from him every day. I don’t do much reporting these days, but I can be found laying out and designing the weekly print editions for Douglas County – Castle Rock, Parker and Highlands Ranch. A native of the frozen tundra of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, I was managing editor of my hometown paper before expanding my journalism career into broadcasting in local and network radio news, including hosting a nationally syndicated business talk show, being senior producer at a print and broadcast wire service and television production work. I love telling people stories on YourHub.com. I also do script editing and narration for educational science videos and once took a job as an airport security screener for a year right after 9/11. I enjoy photography, the outdoors -- including hiking, mountain biking and fly fishing -- as well as reading three or four books at a time, cooking, gardening and travel. I am originally from the good old Hoosier state of Indiana and grew up in a suburb of Indianapolis. I attended Ball State University in Muncie, Ind., and graduated in 2003 with a bachelor's degree in journalism with a focus on magazine writing. I married my husband, Brent, in November 2003 and moved to Colorado. I enjoy the beautiful scenery here and can't get enough of skiing, hiking, camping and generally being outdoors.
