Her decision

"We're proud of Bristol's decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents."
- Republican VP hopeful Sarah Palin and Todd Palin in a statement

While you see lots of nonsensical and pointless talk about Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's stance on abstinence-only education and her family values in the wake of her daughter's pregnancy, you hear almost nothing about her statement regarding it or the glaring hypocrisy it contains.

The Palins said they were proud of "Bristol's decision to have her baby." Really? You let her make a decision? You actually let her make a choice? Wouldn't it have been more in line with your philosophy to demand that she have her child, just as you would like to make that demand of all the other women in America? I'd like my daughter to be able to make that decision also, Gov. Palin, but you want to make it for her. I agree that your daughter's pregnancy should be off limits. I also expect you to show the same respect to me and my family and keep your nose out of our business when we make any decision. You don't share that view. In your mind, what's good for the Palins isn't good for any other person. They don't deserve the same respect that you demand. That's just one of a long list of reasons why you should not have the opportunity to serve as vice president of this country.

Her daughter made a decision to raise the baby and marry the father of her child. She could have decided to let someone else raise the baby, which would have been her choice, but disappointing to Todd & Sarah, who are supportive of keeping a new child in the family.

I don't know what went into the decision and the post does not condone abortion. I also don't blame the Palin's for anything regarding their daughter's pregnancy. My point, which Ms. Malchow understood, was that they stated that it was "Bristol's decision." Palin would prefer that no other woman be allowed to make that decision. She wants it made for them.

Kevin - I'm amazed that you would know what went into the decision. Are you a close personal friend? For liberal democrats to believe that passing judgement on others is wrong, you all sure are passing a lot of judgement. And you call her a hypocrite.

Sarah Palin's position is that she does not support abortion unless the mother's life is threatened. Putting aside arguments for or against abortion, we should agree this much is true: As a politician, if she promoted laws and court appointments to that effect, there would be no decision for a pregnant girl/woman to make, which is what makes her choice of words in the announcement ironic at the very least.

I wonder if a woman or girl would rather have an abortion, as you seem to imply.

You're pretty presumptuous t blame the Palins without knowing the facts around the decision.
