Blog Entry 6 of 6 The Hometown Kid

Julius Vaughns This is a collection of what my life has been and currently is like living in Aurora. Having lived here all my life, I see a side of the city that many people don't. So bear with me as I take you through a journey through what I like to call Colorado's forgotten city.

Local musical talent on his way to Grammy's
Contributed by: Julius Vaughns   on 1/27/2008

A few months ago, I profiled a young man who can do wonders with the violin. Jeffrey Hughes, aka Maestro, of Denver, has crafted his classical music training into a hip-hop hybrid, playing rap and R&B tunes on his violin.

Hughes' skills have gained him much notoriety as he is one of 45 final contestants to play at the orchestra at the 50 th annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Feb. 10. Yes, that's correct, the Grammy's.

Hughes started as one of about 1,200 contestants who submitted their audition tapes online to play on stage with the Foo Fighters. Now that he's made the first cut, he needs a little more help to get to the awards show.

To vote for Hughes, go to http://www.youtube.com/mygrammymomentand on the right side of the screen, you'll see a video module and a tab that says "Vote." Click that tab, and in the search field, type in "Maestro." A small thumbnail of his video will pop up below the search field. Click on his video and once the full size is displayed, you can listen to his demo and select the thumbs-up icon to the right of the video.

You can vote through Jan. 31. Let's help get one of Denver's (and the nation's) most talented acts to the Grammy's.
