Blog Entry 2 of 6 The Hometown Kid

Julius Vaughns This is a collection of what my life has been and currently is like living in Aurora. Having lived here all my life, I see a side of the city that many people don't. So bear with me as I take you through a journey through what I like to call Colorado's forgotten city.

The great break-up: It still sucks
Contributed by: Julius Vaughns/YourHub.com   on 1/9/2007

Okay, a few years ago, my parents, who had been involved with each other since they were 19 or 20, divorced. The official split came about 4 years after they told my sister and I they were 'taking a break."

I felt like I took the news fairly well considering I was only 16 when my dad first moved out. Throughout it all, I never showed any anger towards either one of them for breaking up. I just couldn't understand why they couldn't work their differences out, I mean we're talking a 20-plus year relationship. What could have been so bad that the only remedy was divorce?

Nevertheless, I got used to my dad not living with us (my mom, sister and I) anymore, and it got to the point where it didn't bother me. I was cool, honestly. Besides, I had my own life and girlfriend(s) to deal with, let alone being concerned with my parents' status.

Like I said, I was fine, until recently when my mom decided it was time for her to get back into the dating game. Oh boy!
Now I have to admit, the idea of my mom dating, hugging, kissing, and anything else(ing) with someone other than my dad really didn't agree with me. I hated it when my sister would say, "You know mom was talking to this guy for like 3 hours on the phone last night." AWWWW!!!!!

That used to kill me. I just couldn't fathom that possibility. But the more I thought and think about it, the more I realize that she has every right to date again. I mean, com'mon, her and my dad have been split up for almost 8 years now. I'm actually surprised that she held out as long as she did, but it wasn't fair to her. I know a lot of things that went on behind closed doors that my mom wanted to share with me and me only.

So knowing these things, I can't, as they say, "hate" on my mom for doing her own thing, and she seems to have found a prosepect in this new guy she's dating. She has said nothing but good things about him, and as long as he keeps her happy, what can I say.

It still is taking me a lot of time to get used to this, but I prayed for a longtime for my mom to be happy again, because I saw way too much of her unhappiness. At this point, all I can say is that I hope my dad can find the same happiness again that he once shared with my mom.

Who knows, maybe they'll find each other again someday?

I'm trying to imagine my mom and dad getting back out there on the dating scene, and it's just not happening. Thankfully.
