Blog Entry 1 of 15 YouThinkMyOpinionIsBad...
My blog is about: recent events I witness in my neighborhood (Downtown Aurora), my 11 year struggle with chronic pain (including 7 spinal surgeries and more to come), updates on my hunt for/and disruption of Internet child predators in Colorado, and much more. I have strong opinions on many issues that I feel others may want to hear and debate. I welcome others opinions and am not shy about expressing mine. I am an Aurora native, and still love my Community. My wife and I were both raised and schooled in Downtown Aurora. Let's BLOG!

How many flee the scene of an accident?
Contributed by: Timothy Miller   on 6/20/2006

Last night (June 14 th) at approx. 10:30 pm a severe motor vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Colfax and Florence in downtown Aurora. Three cars were involved. Two tan Cadillac sedans and a blue SUV on 20" spoke rims.

One Caddy remained at the scene of the accident. The vehicle was rear ended with such force that the roof was ripped off and lay on the hood of the car. This was the only car that apparently remained at the scene of the accident.

The blue SUV made it about a block down Florence and was abandoned, due to a front wheel that had been ripped from the car and lay at the scene. Thethird vehicle, the other Cadillac laytwo blocks away in the middle of Del Mar Pkwy, where the front driver's side wheel finally gave out. Three males exited this vehicle and vanished.

Aurora Police could be seen everywhere. Over walkie-talkies a manhunt for multiple individuals could be heard. Reports of individuals hiding in bushes and such permeated the air.

From what we could observe, the passengers of at leasttwo of the vehicles (the SUV, and the Cadillac that was abandoned on Del Mar Pkwy) had fled the scene. The driver of the Cadillac that had remained at the scene of the accident (roof ripped off) was carried away by ambulance.

I've heard of hit and runs like most people have. This situation I admit had me baffled. Was everyone involved drunk? No insurance? No driver's license? No citizenship? A combination of these factors? The possibilities are endless, and somewhat grim.

I would like to be able to drive my vehicle at 10:30 pm on a Wednesday night without the fear of becoming involved in a multi-car accident. Not to mention a multi-car accident that results in everyone fleeing the scene but me. There is a reason I pay extra dollars monthly for uninsured motorist coverage, though I hope I never have to use it. This was a horrible accident, and apparently not many involved were sticking around to take responsibility.

We live 2.5 blocks from the scene of the accident, and when it occurred, the impact sounded like a bomb going off. My whole household ran out back to make sure the propane tank on out grill didn't blow. We had just finished grilling steaks (a late dinner) and that's honestly how loud the impact was.

Lastly and most importantly: I hope that those who were injured and ok, those that fled are caught, and those responsible are forced to take RESPONSIBILITY.

If there is additional information on this accident I would love to know more.

Victor LaNasa: No sir, I am not foolish enough to believe criminals only come out at 10:30. The Aurora Police arrived on the scene incredibly fast, and were very diligent in their duties. As far as your opinion of the useless APD... I would hate to see what shape our great city would be in if they were not here to protect and serve. Finally, taking matters into your own hands sir, can be very bad for your health and odds of living to see another day. I seriously hope you don't mean that and aren’t foolish enough to believe that you can handle a situation better than trained professionals. I would hate to see anything bad happen to you or anyone else. Respectfully, Timothy J Miller

Give me a break; are you really foolish enough to think or believe that criminals wait until after 10:30 at night to cause accidents? "I would like to be able to drive my vehicle at 10:30 pm on a Wednesday night without the fear of becoming involved in a multi-car accident." If that's the case, do all of your driving prior to 10:30 p.m. And it's been my experience that the Aurora cops couldn't care less about doing their job, nor could the dispatchers. I called the cops a few years back because some kids across the street from me were firebombing a construction zone, and the dispatcher said, and I quote, "I'm not sending anyone out there unless someone's being killed". I kid you not! I hope that moron got fired! I'll take matters into my own hands before I EVER call the Aurora cops again.
