Yesterday's class was as tough as ever. Lots of abs (shrink that belly!) tri's (so the backs of your arms don't flap like wings) and squats - which don't work on anything that I can tell; except the fronts of my legs will be hurtin' for certain tomorrow.
Did you know ab work won't really shrink your belly? What it does is give you a nice tight layer of muscle under the belly fat; so when you
do lose the belly there's something nice revealed. So once again we're back to eating right and getting your heart rate up with some "cardio" - so walk, bike, dance - anything that gets your heart pumping a little harder than usual.
The local farmer's markets have lots of great fresh and locally grown produce now. Here's a link to some area markets:
http://www.denverfarmersmarket.com/locations.htm There's also one at Southlands Mall at Smoky Hill and Aurora Parkway Saturday mornings at 9, and one in Parker on Sundays. If I can find a more complete list I'll include it next time.
Fruits are great for your sweet tooth (and they're healthy) plus most are around 50 calories per cup. Consumer Reports just published an article on when to buy organic and the top 6 fruits and vegetable that are best to buy organically are: Fruits; cranberries, Nectarines, Peaches, Strawberries, Pears, Apples, Cherries, and Cantaloupe. I'm not sure why cantaloupe is in there since most people don't eat the skin (does anybody?) The vegetables that they say you should buy organic are; Green Beans, bell peppers, celery, potatoes, tomatoes, peas and lettuce.
Warning!!! Do not add fruits and vegetables too fast. If you overdo your daily amount of fruits &/or vegetables be prepared for some annoying side effects. There's no way to politely list them - so trust me - just increase your daily servings gradually and give your body time to adjust.
