A recollective respective on the closing elections
From the beginning when both campaigns were young -with many places to visit, many speeches to make, many [hopefully successful and affordable]ideas to pitch to the public - until the final moments before the results of the 2008 Presidential Election are revealed, throughout the long process, I have stood my ground and maintained my views concerning the two candidates running for president. Amid much of the diverstiy of the school I attend, with its many students of vast backgrounds, beliefs, etc., Ihaveremained consistent with the belief and hope in the candidateI view most eligable for the presidency. I find it comical when my friends glare at me when i am for John McCain...i believe he will be president.

Realizing the true value of life
Contributed by: Holly Ruark   on 11/16/2008

Life is precious, and must not be taken for granted.

One moment you hang up the phone from pleasant conversation you just had with a friend, the next moment life can resound a disturbing announcement that they have been taken from you; fallen in the line of duty, robbed of life, all because of a self serving individual with no self control, accountability, etc.

Just days ago my school, Aurora Central, among a few other schools had a lock down - of which the majority of us thought was just another drill. Come to find out, there was no drill, no practice... it was within our neighborhood that a shooting occurred, with the gunman on the run, then later caught. A patrol officer - just doing his job - was shot and critically injured.

My sister's co-worker was a very close friend of his, she was his partner in the line of duty with him. Being in the area of the crime committed, unaware of the situation, as she arrived to the scene, she walked past her fellow officers to observe the situation, only to find the wounded officer, but ultimately her friend, fading away.

As other officer units quickly pursued the man who committed the horrific crime, the injured officer was taken to the closest hospital - who later passed.

Even though I am not in direct relation to the officer who was shot and killed, I have still been affected by this tragedy - as well as my friends.

Let us hope that man can forsake their harmful ways and value life for once
