HubCap: 3 is the magic number
Contributed by: Brendan Leonard/YourHub.com   on 9/21/2006

I have no idea how to raise a 3-year-old. I was one once, I guess, but I don't remember much about it, and can offer no help.

Fortunately, a number of YourHub.com contributors are parents of3-year-old people, and have been more than forthcoming in sharing their experiences on this Web site. ( Note: There will be no mention of poop or boogers in this blog. Well, outside of that last sentence, anyway.) From what I can tell, it's more fun to be a 3-year-old kid than it is to be a parent of a 3-year-old kid. I think the best part about it is the honesty, which can allow other readers to learn from their mistakes. And laugh at them, I guess.

Jared Keller got me thinking on this topic when I read his story, " The Terrible Twos? BAH!" about how much worse that third year can be than the "Terrible Twos." I quote: "Each day, in one way or another, I find that I'm forced to surrender to a little girl."

And then I read Kia Silverman's story, " Wishing for a time machine," about how she can't wait until her son's fourth birthday. " It's as if on his third birthday, he suddenly decided to switch majors and go for his bachelor's in beastliness with a minor in whining - and we all think he'll graduate with honors," she writes.

And then there's Mike Bates, the Castle Rock dad who culls much of his writing material from the time he spends with Dakota, who I believe is going to turn four sometime this fall. Check out Mike's blog here, or read the top10 questions he is asked about being a stay-at-home dad here.
