Who on earth is Rik Reppe? After years as a performing artist, singer and songwriter, Reppe developed a severe allergy to poverty. He returned to school and earned a PhD in economics. He spent time as a lobbyist, started his own dot-com business, which died an ignominious death, and became a successful management consultant. After the 9/11 attacks, he began to think there might be more to the whole idea of being an American than the relentless pursuit of wealth and conspicuous consumption. With his sleeping bag, tent and pickup truck, he spent months on the road, reacquainting himself with the country. That trip gave birth to his hit one-man show, Staggering Toward America, about the nature and meaning of home.
In his latest theatrical creation,
Glorious Noise
, accompanied by a piano player, Reppe explores the stories and music of the New Orleans Jazz Fest. Revealing the love, life and loss of the Crescent City in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the stories he tells and the songs he sings reveal a people and a place intent on surviving. A top-seller of the 2005 Minnesota Fringe Festival, Glorious Noise captures the hopeful spirit of a devastated city.
