I do! Now, rack 'em!

My (now) fiancee and I both play pool competitively. My name is Samm and this is our engagement story...

We both have national amateur titles and love the game immensely. In fact, when we met, at a pool tournament, three and a half years ago, I was sort of seeing someone else. Chisolm, my fiancee, ends up drawing the guy in the tournament and beat him. We like to joke that I was the prize and if he hadn't won, we may not be together today. The romance began immediately from there and two years later the question was popped.

Our May to June each year is spent in Las Vegas for national pool tournaments. In between the first and second tournament in 2005, we snuck into the tournament room in the middle of the night to practice. Picture a giant convention room with over a hundred pool tables and no overhead lights. It was completely dark and silent.

As we searched around for some lights, we were able to turn on only the lights over two adjacent pooltables. We practiced beside each other for a couple hours until we decided to play together. Halfway through, Chisolm left to "use the restroom" and came back quite a while later. We played a few more games together until he suggested, "Let's check out this other table and see how it plays." That lil' sneak!

Of course, he waited until it was his turn to break. As I reached in the rack-holder of the other table, I was very surprised and a bit confused to find a small black velvet box hidden in the table. It took me a minute to completely realize what was happening. The next thing I knew, Chisolm is kneeling in front of me, asking for my hand in marriage.

I balled uncontrollably as I responded, "Of course!"

I couldn't imagine it happening any other way. It was so perfect. Surrounded by the sea of green felt from the tables, in the darkness of the night with nothing but the light of our own tables, in the room where many hours have been spent fulfilling our passion, I accepted the proposal of the man I love, my bestfriend, my soulmate, my partner.
