Last Saturday, March 16, Democrats worked - the Democratic community service organization -mobilized over thirty volunteers, including state Senator
Suzanne Williams, Representatives
Karen Middleton and
Nancy Todd, Councilman
Larry Beer, and County Commissioner
Frank Weddig, for the annual Great High Line Canal Clean Up in Aurora.
The High Line Canal Clean Up is sponsored by the Aurora Water Department every March to clean the 11 miles of the High Line Canal that runs through Aurora. The cleanup is timed before April water releases from Denver to avoid washing litter into the Sand and Tollgate Creeks, harming the local ecosystem. The Democrats Work Crew cleaned a section of the Canal between 6th Avenue and Colfax, filling around 90 bags with trash and debris.
Democrats Work assembled volunteers for the Canal Clean Up as part of the organization's "Ready, Set, CO!" initiative that is mobilizing volunteers to get Colorado communities ready for the Democratic National Convention scheduled for August. Since January, Democrats Work has engaged folks who want to be involved in the Convention by connecting them with service projects today, including sorting food at the Food Bank of the Rockies, serving meals at the Urban Peak Shelter, and making Valentines for veterans.
In April, Democrats Work will assist with a tree planting event in Expo Park. For more information, or to sign up, please visit
