People who inspired you (and how): Martin Luther King, Jr. has inspired me for action in my life. I love that he said, "Our lives begin to end the day we begin to do nothing." As a result, I am a doer. I'm all about taking action.
How you have contributed to the community: I've contributed to my community on a personal level by being a dedicated wife and mother. Family is one of my core values. I believe that the best contribution we make to our community is by raising children who will grow up to be people of good character. In addition, it is very important to invest quality time in our children's lives in order to direct them in ways that will lead them to be valuable contributors to our society. I've also been active in community outreach through my church and school groups doing work to feed and quench the thirst of the hungry. I love working with the community. It is very rewarding to help others in times of need.
What are the biggest issues facingyour constituency now: The biggest issues facing the constituency right now revolve around our current economic situation. I have talked to many people in District 28 who are now facing, or will face, job layoffs due to corporate downsizing. I have also talked to small business owners (such as real estate, insurance and mortgage brokers) who have seen steep declines in their work. Truckers have felt the effects of the high cost of fuel on their business. They have had to cut their trucking fleets because of the high fuel prices. In every case, I see deep concern on the faces of friends and neighbors affected by our current economic instability.
I see a real link in Colorado between the need for more vigorous energy exploration, the creation of jobs here at home, and working toward a stronger economic future in our state. In the Colorado legislature, I will be a vigilant advocate for opening markets for the energy industry, thus creating new jobs, and stimulating our state's economy by producing all forms of energy here at home. I believe that energy independence must be a premier goal for our state and our nation. I believe that this kind of freedom is a key to increasing local, national, and economic security.
