On a night that was generally accepted as one where that fainthearted could sit more comfortably by a crackling fireplace, about 60 families and individuals braved the winds, the arthritis-irritating rain, and came to the sanctuary bundled in various layers to hear and question the many ballot issues before them this season. Seniors and younger adults responded and arrived for this inter-commUNITY forum of discussion l cosponsored by:
African American Initiatives of Colorado;
Citizens Concerned About Minorities in Aurora (CCAMA); COmmUNITY Renaissance Neighbors (CO.R.N); and Many Others. Thanks to
Rev. Jules Smith and the
Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church and its congregation at 1500 S. Dayton St., warmly received and comforted their guests. Donna Davis,
African American Voter Registration and Information Project (AA-VIP) and
CCAMA provide a delicious food spread for the participants.
Many candidates, position supporters or detractors, and elected or appointed officials were informed not necessarily representing their official capacity as government staff. A few came by to make their case including:
AJ Clemmons (CU Board of Regents candidate);
Allison Halprin (47,49, 52 supporter);
Michelle Wheeler (District Attorney's Ofc.- citizen);
Chi Wright, Barack Obama's Campaign for Change,
National Association of Black Veterans (NABVETs), led by
Commander, Dr Franklin db Jackson, calle

Mr. Adrian Miller dutifully led the presentation and discussion periods through each issue noting the pros and cons of each. He also enlightened the audience that Ballot issues 53, 55, and 57 had been withdrawn but, because the ballots had been previously printed, the items are listed but a vote would yield no benefit in any case. The cosponsors and other organizations (those without recognition under the IRS 501(3)c prohibitions against lobbying), and individuals agree in whole or in part, and make the following
recommendations to the community at-large:
VOTE "YES" On Amendments - 50, 51, 58, and 59
VOTE "NO" On Amendments - 46, 47, 48, 49, 52 54
Dr. Sandra Seale, eloquently and assuredly described the benefits of the Aurora Public Schools Questions 3A & 3B stating that "..our children are well deserving of not only the bricks and mortar but also, the academic enhancements that 3A and 3B provide for. " "...The overall costs are so minuscule to a $100, 000 home that it bears no real hardship at all," she says.
VOTE "YES" for Aurora Public Schools Questions 3A / 3B;
Vote "Yes" on
ALL Referendum Items (L, M, N, O)

The crescendo rang out as
Chi Wright, passionately described the urgency and magnitudes of the campaign. Chi cried out for early voting, described the "rules of the voting road" for those who received mail-in ballots and those who did not, and finally, voiced a critical need for volunteers and he also asked for your support of
Mark Udall for Senate. His concerned surrounded the early polls that Arapahoe County may be lost to the Republicans. Up from the floor came a resounding prognostication, "The Republican shall carry Arapahoe County to Barack Obama!!!"
So it is written, so it was proclaimed, and so it shall be done by faith and believing in the
Trinity,
General Colin Powell (retired), others and me!
Sincerely
