Get Cookin' On Havana in International Markets


This Saturday, September 26, from 12-noon until 4 p.m. you can sample food from around the world and pick up International recipes. Fifteen of the International Markets On Havana Street are coming together to share their cultures, food and recipes with you. This is a free event. Here is a sneak preview of what will be offered in some of the markets on Saturday:

--Sathvik Foods at 2720 So Havana will share a traditional recipe from India called Rajma Masala and offering samples of Indian food
--Ifka Cafe at 1535 S Havana #M will be serving samples of Somali Sambusa and sharing a recipe for the Sambusa
--Aladdin's Market at 10315 E Iliff will share their family recipe for Fava Beans--a traditional Middle Eastern dinner
--M-Mart at 2000 S Havana is cooking up Bulgogi and sushi, cookies and tea for tasting and will be sharing an easy Bulgogi recipe.
--Tana Grocery's owner, Ama, is also an Ethiopian caterer and will be making her special Doro Wat for all to taste (sharing the recipe, too), as well as performing an Ethiopian coffee ceremony around 1 p.m. (address 2222 S Havana #C-1)
--Tata, the owner of Ibiza African Market at 1930 S Havana, will share several of her favorite recipes, including Jollof rice from Mali, Senegalese chicken with onions and lemon (Poulet Yassa), Ginger beer, and Mafe (West African meat in peanut sauce). Tata teaches cooking classes and will be fixing some of the dishes for you to sample
--The English Tea Cup, also at 1930 S Havana and next door to Ibiza, is serving tastings of Shepherd's pie, a special chicken noodle soup and tea and crumpets. Annette will be sharing her soup recipe and other very Brittish recipes.
--You won't want to miss the Lebanese pastries and food at Amira at 10375 E Iliff. They are sharing a recipe for Baklawa (Lebanese Baklava).
--Cozy Café at 350 N Havana will have samples of Ethiopian beef and chicken tibs-a family recipe.
