Cutting the ribbon On Havana Street
Contributed by: Gayle Jetchick on 10/6/2008

October 3 was a milestone for the Havana Corridor. The first On Havana Street district identity gateway sign was installed at the SE corner of Alameda and Havana.

City and state officials, neighborhood leaders, Havana BID business owners and board members participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony to christen the gateway sign for the new business district.

The Havana BID consists of 196 commercial properties and 500 businesses along a 4.3 mile stretch of Havana Street, 6th avenue to Dartmouth. On Havana Street is the new name for the district, the result of an intensive branding and marketing campaign which started in February of 2008.

The Havana BID is working with Aurora city staff and neighborhood leaders to define streetscape design elements, including a banner project and more gateway signs.

Other exciting projects On Havana Street include the new mixed-use development, The Gardens On Havana (former Buckingham Square Mall), which is scheduled to open in March of 2009. CommonGround Golf course (former Mira Vista) at Alameda and Havana, is being redeveloped into an 18-hole championship course and a short course for junior golf training. CommonGround is scheduled to open in the late spring of 2009.
