Democrats Work and Senior Hub help Aurora seniors
Contributed by: Sarah Fong on 6/9/2008

On Saturday June 7th, Democrats Work volunteers helped out three senior citizens with some housework in Aurora , as part of Senior Hub's Annual Spring Service Day.Volunteerslenttheir own household tools and came prepared with enthusiasm to make Saturday a bit brighter for a few senior citizens. Presumptive Democratic Presidential nominee Barack Obama's message of community and service is one that clearly shone through in the activities of the day.

Everyone was happy to help with weeding, cleaning, minor repairs, wrestling some overgrown trees and sweeping basements. Not to discount any previous events we have done but, as a Field Organizer for Democrats Work, this was my favorite and most rewarding event so far. The people I met and the friendships that were made were inspirational. One of the senior citizens even baked cookies and brownies for the volunteers as a token of her appreciation.

Democrats Work connects grassroots Democrats with service projects in their communities - cleaning up neighborhoods and parks, planting trees, working at food banks, honoring veterans, and supporting schools. Since it began in 2007, Democrats Work has mobilized over blue-shirted 700 volunteers at more than 30 service events in Colorado. In 2008, it launched the Ready, Set, CO! campaign to help address unmet needs and get Colorado communities ready for the Democratic Convention in August.
