Chavez “Peace Tour” visits APS

Anthony Chavez, grandson of Cesar Chavez, delivered a message of peace to APS students on Friday, March 21. Chavez visited Colorado as part of an eight-day Peace Tour.

Chavez was raised in the farm worker movement his grandfather founded. He grew up participating in United Farm Workers' marches, rallies and political campaigns.

The 22-year-old has spoken to a number of student and community groups on behalf of the Cesar E. Chavez Foundation, established by the Chavez family to further his grandfather's life and work.

Chavez' visit to APS was part of a program called "Lessons and Legacies for Peace - 8 Days for Peace." He also spoke to youth at the Denver Juvenile Court at the Denver City and County Building, local churches and other school districts.

Chavez will spoke at the following schools in APS:

- North Middle School
- East Middle School
- Gateway High School
- Aurora Hills Middle School

Chavez is a recent graduate of religious studies from California State University, Bakersfield.
