APS announces 2008 bond schedule
Contributed by: Rich Blegen on 12/2/2008

APS has completed a preliminary construction schedule for the bond program approved by Aurora voters in November. The $215 million bond construction program provides approximately $201 million for building improvements and nearly $14 million for technology. Construction will be completed over a five-year period, beginning in 2009 and ending in 2013.

Due to annual borrowing limits on bond funds and workload considerations, APS will fund about $45 million in construction per year for the first four years, and $20 million for the final year.

The construction of a new high school and P-8 school at 6th Avenue Parkway and Harvest Road will be a priority during the first 2-1/2 years of the bond program. Construction of the new P-8 school will begin in spring 2009, and work will start on the new high school during the summer. The P-8 school will open in fall 2010. The high school is scheduled to open in fall 2011.

Other projects scheduled to begin in spring 2009 include:

-- Rangeview High School- new kitchen and building renewal
-- Wheeling Elementary School- gymnasium addition and building renewal
-- Laredo Elementary- gymnasium addition and building renewal
-- Gateway High School- roof repairs
