Rhap·so·dy [rap-suh-dee]
-noun, plural.
Definition: An ecstatic expression of feeling or enthusiasm, a state of elated bliss.
That's the inspiration for Rangeview High School students' Rhapsody-Fusion Remix art exhibit recently showcased at the Downtown Aurora Visual Arts gallery.
The visual arts came alive as students from Rangeview's National Art Honor Society proudly displayed their work at the unique local art studio that's designed specifically with young artists in mind.
The DAVA gallery at 1405 Florence St. is a non-profit art organization designed for kids. The studio offers free after-school programs and open studio time for Aurora students from ages seven to 17.
"Our gallery is a place to show the beneficial connection between after-school art programs and school art programs, as a way to reach kids in our community," said Viviane LeCourtois, DAVA gallery program manager.
Several of the featured artists have aspired for an art career since they first picked up a paint brush as elementary students. They even invited their elementary and middle school art teachers to their exhibit.
"Putting together our art show was exciting because it has given us exposure to the local artists' community and to the larger art world," said Dana Breese, Rangeview H.S. Art Department Chair and NAHS sponsor.
"I chose this art for the show because it tells a lot about me," said Marlon Mendez, Rangeview High School student and artist. "It shows how I have grown spiritually. On the left side we see me before as a down individual, without hope, and the other side is me now."
