Welcome to Aurora - A great place?

WELCOME TO AURORA, A GREAT PLACE!

The Aurora voters have spoken 54% to 46%.No tax increase for Libraries. Let's take a closer look at Aurora and see how Aurora fits into the Metro Area and Front Range of Colorado.
Bottom of the Barrel
  • By far the lowest in Library per capita funding
  • By far the lowest in Recreation facility square footage per capita
  • Lowest student achievement ratings
  • Low end of property taxes.40% less than many other areas.
A Leader in Other Ways
  • Highest overall for suburban crime
  • Highest in code violation complaints (a code violation is weeds and junk in yards to help about 54% of Aurorian's who may not know what this means)
  • Three zip codes are Metro leaders in foreclosures and property devaluation
  • Leader in strip mall and big box retail vacancies
Bright Horizons
And things will get better! The Anschutz/CU Med Center at the old Fitzsimmons Army base will revitalize northeast Aurora. Not! Due to good highway access to the campus, the people with good jobs working there lock their car doors, roll up the windows, look straight ahead, drive through Aurora to work and take their money home.Beyond Anschutz, there is nothing happening in Aurora on the business front.
What Went Wrong
While our Mayor was hiding-out counting his campaign money from developers and pondering his next run for office, our City Council, much like the Senate in Rome, debated whether the angels were male or female. Our senior management was busy applying for awards like "All America City" and scared sh%tless to bring before Council any long term strategies to deal with Aurora's problems.
Please oh great leaders of Aurora, apply now for "All World City" and then "All Universe City" and put up those signs so we can at least feel like our home values will be competitive in the Denver market.Keep wagging the dog; image is everything, isn't it?
All the while, life goes on in Aurora like it has the last 20 years, but without my family. We are "outta here" along with our $200,000 household income.I am sure we will be replaced by something less as the snowball of Aurora's decline continues.
